When thinking about a frameless shower, the first thing that comes to mind is clear glass and this is by far the most popular option, it is also worth noting that glass showers can come in a variety of different types of glass for different purposes. If you’re aiming for more clarity and transparency, HD glass is the suitable glass type. If you prefer something that offers more privacy, you can use tinted glass such as gray glass or bronze glass. To add texture to your enclosure without compromising the privacy feature, use Rain glass. For a more personalized look, frosted glass can be custom sandblasted onto the entire glass or at different opacity levels. Regardless of the glass type, our shower glass is all tempered glass to ensure maximum durability. Learn more about the six different glass types and tints by visiting our comprehensive blog.
Note: Textured glass like polar, rain, and frosted varieties, has a textured surface on the exterior side of the shower, while clearshield is applied on the interior side, ensuring the shower glass remains protected from dirt and stains.
When it comes to selecting a shower glass door type, the thickness of the glass plays a pivotal role in ensuring both durability and aesthetics. Choosing the right thickness for your frameless glass shower guarantees a safe and stylish bathing experience. At Dulles Glass, we proudly offer two main options—3/8" and 1/2".
3/8” glass is the default thickness in most cases which offers a sleek, modern look. Our textured glass variants are only available in 3/8 thickness.
1/2” is more substantial in look and feel but there are weight limitations that apply in considering the thicker glass option. There are times when the choice between the two glass thicknesses is dictated by the structure for safety and integrity.
For optimal maintenance of your frameless glass shower, especially in high-traffic areas like the master bath, bathtub enclosure, and walk-in showers, consider Dulles Glass's ClearShield application. Clearshield is applied at the manufacturing level and reduces the need for maintenance by literally shedding the water off of the glass at a faster rate. The Clearshield application can be maintained through a monthly application of Aftercare. Using Dulles Glass’s AfterCare cleaner regularly helps keep your glass clean and shiny. Whether you have a clear glass shower or the textured type, proper care, and maintenance are a must to keep your shower in its optimal condition.
In a Solo hinged shower door setup, the choice of hinges significantly influences both functionality and aesthetics. There are two hinge types to choose from:
This is the most popular hinged shower type for door installation which typically utilizes two hinges to support the swing mechanism, available in two capacities.
Known for their remarkable versatility, pivot hinges offer flexible attachment options in hinged shower door installations. Whether mounted on the ceiling or floor-to-ceiling, pivot hinges create a seamless, frameless visual impact. The hinges can be also attached to a header bar at the top for doors of varying heights, this ensures a sleek appearance. In both scenarios, the pivot hinge securely anchors at both the bottom and top of the glass, enabling smooth inward and outward swinging motions, delivering both functionality and an aesthetically pleasing shower.
Note: An essential consideration arises when opting for textured glass, as the hinges should be exclusively placed on the right side to ensure that the textured surface remains on the exterior.
Enhance the aesthetic appeal of your shower area with accent hardware, offering a diverse range of trendy color finishes like chrome, brushed nickel, brass, matte black, and many more —to complement your interior design seamlessly. With six stylish options, these finishes will be applied to shower hinges, handles, and accessories. Whether you’re opting for a classic and minimalist style or a more dramatic and striking design for your shower setup, our designs have you covered! Door handles are a key part of your shower's look and feel, giving your space a unique style. There are different types to choose from, each adding character to your shower setup. The Standard handle is a timeless choice if you like a classic and simple look. For something more elegant, the Colonial handle with its ornate details is just the right pick. The Square handle gives off a modern and clean vibe, while the Ladder handle has a sleek and simple design. If you're into vintage styles, the Victorian handle with its intricate patterns might catch your eye. The Crescent handle, with its curved and comfortable design, adds a modern touch. With these options, you can pick a handle that complements your bathroom's style, making your shower space uniquely yours.
Doors for showers typically stand at a height of 72 inches, but at Dulles Glass, we offer the flexibility to customize the height according to your preferences. Currently, a popular trend for glass shower heights is around 82 inches. It’s important to consider when deciding on the shower height is the placement of the shower head; the glass should always be a minimum of 2 inches higher than the shower head. To make it simple, just think of the height of the individuals using the shower enclosure, ensuring that the glass is at least 2 inches taller than the tallest user for a comfortable experience.
Solo shower configuration can accommodate a steam shower using a transom. A transom is a glass that is normally placed between the door and the ceiling to help control the steam in the shower area. Transoms are normally custom-cut to fit the space and can be moved or fixed based on need. This option is only available for full-service installation as the intricate measurement and installation process needs a glass expert.

Depending on the size of the glass door, various sizes of towel rails can be installed. These handles may face either inside or outside. It's essential to consider the need for these attachments before glass fabrication since they are installed through the glass and require pre-drilled holes. Robe hooks are typically placed at the top of the glass shower and can be easily added or removed.
Solo showers rely on three types of easily maintainable removable sweeps—bottom, side, and door jam sweeps. The bottom sweep, positioned at the glass door's base, acts as a protective barrier against water leakage. To enhance water resistance, side sweeps are installed along the enclosure's sides. Door jam sweeps serve to prevent the door from opening inward, offering a customizable addition based on personal preference. As these sweeps may degrade over time due to regular use and exposure to moisture, it's crucial to inspect and replace them periodically to ensure their continued effectiveness. Replacing these sweeps is a simple part of routine maintenance. It can be conveniently purchased online here at Dulles, making it an accessible solution for preserving the functionality of your frameless glass shower.
Check out the video for a comprehensive guide on how to easily replace sweeps and seals.
